Strategy
In a world facing major climate challenges, Statkraft’s core product is more in demand and valuable than ever before. The need for clean energy creates major growth opportunities. Statkraft is uniquely positioned to take part in this growth and will develop renewable energy in a manner which supports a positive social development.
Statkraft focuses on five main areas:
Flexible production and market operations in Europe
Nordic hydropower is Statkraft’s main activity and includes more than 200 hydropower plants in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Nordic hydropower makes up the majority of our assets and revenues, but we will also maintain our position as Europe’s largest hydropower producer and be a major supplier of flexible power in Europe.
Make Nordic hydropower more efficient
Look into opportunities for developing pumped storage power
Invest in hydropower development in France, Germany and the UK
Develop new cable connections between European markets
Build Knapsack II and focus on ownership and operation of gas power plants
International hydropower
Statkraft has a global hydropower strategy and the goal is to strengthen our position considerably in attractive growth markets.
Statkraft has hydropower plants and projects in Turkey, Albania and Laos.
Through SN Power, Statkraft owns hydropower plants in Peru, Chile, Nepal, India and the Philippines. Statkraft is also working on opportunities for further growth in South and Central America, Asia and Africa.
Wind power in Norway, Sweden and the UK
The ambition is to establish Statkraft as one of the most profitable and cost-efficient operations in onshore wind power in Norway and Sweden and develop offshore wind power in the UK.
Secure licences and increase profitability and expertise in connection with wind power in Norway and Sweden
Develop projects on Dogger Bank toward the licence stage
District heating in Norway and Sweden
Statkraft will strengthen its position as one of the two largest companies in Norway within district heating and further develop an existing plant in Sweden.
Grow in Norway and Sweden through expansion and acquisitions
Ensure innovative development of district heating to reduce costs and CO2 emissions
Small-scale hydropower in Norway
Statkraft considers small-scale hydropower to be attractive due to the large development potential in Norway.
Statkraft will grow in small-scale hydropower through the shareholding in Småkraft AS.
