The power plant was commissioned in 1971-1973 and uses a height of fall of 303 metres between Lake Gausvatnet and Lake Fyresvatnet. Lake Gausvatnet is regulated between 589 and 550 metres above sea level. Water is also transferred from Lake Votnevatni and Lake Grimvatn.
The power plant has two generating units equipped with vertical Francis turbines. The installed capacity is 104 MW.
Through its majority ownership in Skagerak Energi AS and Agder Energi AS, Statkraft is co-owner of this power plant. Agder Energi Kraft AS is responsible for daily operations, and manages the licences and obligations in terms of river management and regulating of the watercourse.
