Novle power plant is located in Odda Municipality in Hordaland County and was commissioned in 1967.
Novle power plant is part of the Røldal-Suldal system, which was originally developed in the 1960s to secure power for Hydro's aluminium production in Karmøy.
The Røldal-Suldal facility currently includes the power plants Kvanndal, Middyr, Novle, Røldal, Svandalsflona, Suldal I and Suldal II, plus Vasstøl.
The plant uses a height of fall of 280 metres from the reservoir Lake Votna which is regulated between 1019 and 977 metres above sea level. The power plant is equipped with a Francis turbine and has an installed capacity of 48 MW. Average annual production is 199 GWh.
After production in Novle power plant, the water is transferred via a tunnel to Røldal power plant, where it is used in new power production.
Norsk Hydro is the operator of Novle power plant and responsible for daily operation.
