Tidal power in brief

Tidal power is the result of the moon’s and the sun’s effect on the ocean. The difference in height between high water and low water creates tidal streams in coastal areas, and these can be powerful enough to run turbines.

The high density of water, nearly 1,000 times that of air, means that there is a lot of energy to harvest from tidal streams, even if they are slow moving.
 
Tidal streams are highly predictable, which is very favourable in terms of production and maintenance planning.
