Kjøllefjord wind farm
“The regional centre in Region Central Norway at Luster in Sogn og Fjordane County will now take over the operational management and monitoring of the power production in our wind farm at Kjøllefjord like our other wind farms at Smøla and Hitra, and like all our hydropower plants in the region. At the same time, we are reinforcing the staff at Kjøllefjord wind farm and we have hired a new employee at the farm in January. There are now three people in total that are handling the daily operations and maintenance of Kjøllefjord wind farm," says wind farm plant manager Arild Soleim.
Started operations in 2006
Kjøllefjord wind farm has a total installed capacity of 39.1 MW and consists of 17 wind turbines. The wind farm’s annual production totals about 150 GWh, equalling the power consumption of about 7 500 Norwegian households. The development costs amounted to slightly more than NOK 400 million and the wind farm started operations in the autumn of 2006. NOK 83 million was granted in subsidies from Enova for the project.
More wind farms
Kjøllefjord wind farm is Statkraft’s fourth large wind power development in Norway. The first project was Smøla I with an installed effect of 40 MW, opened in the autumn of 2002, followed by Hitra wind farm (55 MW), which opened in October 2004. The second development stage at Smøla started operations in the autumn of 2005. Statkraft’s wind farms in Norway produce about 750 GWh per year, equalling the consumption of 37 500 households. Statkraft has a number of wind power projects under development onshore in Norway and Sweden, while there are relevant project opportunities both onshore and offshore in the UK, with Sheringham Shoal wind farm, off the coast of Norfolk, under development.
