Naturkraft’s gas power station on Kårstø opens

The first commercial gas power station in Norway was opened on 1 November by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dag Terje Andersen. The power station on Kårstø in Rogaland was built by Naturkraft, who will also be operating the plant. The company is owned by StatoilHydro and Statkraft.

Mark-E and Statkraft - energy without frontiers:400 MW CCGT power plant at Herdecke is officially operational

After around two years of construction, the new combined gas and steam turbine power plant in Herdecke (North Rhine-Westphalia) was officially put into operation on Wednesday 31 October 2007 at a ceremony attended by 400 guests.

King Harald of Norway opened Statkraft's first gas power plant in Germany

King Harald of Norway opened Statkraft's first gas power plant in Germany on Wednesday 17 October. Knapsack Power Plant near Cologne is Statkraft's first power plant to be built outside the Nordic area. The plant will have an installed capacity of 800 MW.

Statkraft and E.ON to enter into € 4.4 billion swap

Statkraft AS and E.ON AG have today signed a letter of intent to swap Statkraft’s shares in E.ON Sverige AB (44.6 %) in exchange for flexible power production assets and shares in E.ON AG. The total value of the asset swap is € 4.4 billion. A final agreement is expected to be signed during the first quarter of 2008.

Statkraft opens Pålsbu Power Plant

Today sees the opening of Pålsbu Power Plant, which lies directly at the base of Pålsbu Dam in Nore og Uvdal. For the first time, power will be generated using the water that flows from Pålsbu Dam to the Tunhovd Fjord – enough energy to supply 1,000 households.

Statkraft to build world's first osmotic power plant

Statkraft has decided to build the world's first prototype osmotic power plant. The company is also stepping up its initiatives to develop the technology further. Osmotic power is a renewable energy source. Calculations indicate that the technology could contribute around 1,600 TWh on a global basis annually.

Trondheim Energi's new district heating plant officially opened

On Thursday 27 September the new Heimdal heating centre and the new district heating pipeline from Heimdal to Midtbyen were officially opened by the mayor of Trondheim Rita Ottervik. The new incineration plant has an annual capacity of up to 120,000 tonnes and associated heat production of 40 MW.

SCA and Statkraft collaborate on major renewable energy initiative

SCA and Statkraft are setting up a joint company in order to focus on renewable energy in Sweden. The plans include the development of seven wind farms in Västernorrland and Jämtland in Sweden. Assuming the farms are built, they will be able to produce around 2.8 TWh of renewable energy per year. This will entail an investment of approximately NOK 14 billion. The plans also include potential hydropower projects in Sweden.

SCA and Statkraft sign industrial power agreement

The power company Statkraft and the Swedish hygiene and paper company SCA have entered into a long-term industrial power agreement. The agreement entails Statkraft supplying 500 GWh of power annually to SCA’s Swedish activity within the forest industry. The duration of the agreement is 10 years.

Statkraft Challenges EU to Introduce European Renewables Certificate Scheme

The EU has set ambitious and legally binding goals for renewable energy. By 2020 renewable energy sources should provide for 20 percent of all energy consumption. In order to achieve that target, as much as a third of all electricity consumed will probably have to be from renewable energy sources.

Statkraft - Q2 2007

(Oslo, 16 August 2007) The Statkraft Group posted respective pre- and post-tax profits of NOK655 million (NOK 2,540 million) and NOK 451 million (NOK 1,705 million) for the second quarter of 2007. The profit before tax for the first half of the year totalled NOK 4,188 million (NOK 4,822 million), while the profit after tax was NOK 3,056 (NOK 3,199 million). The above figures represent respective decreases of 13% and 4% compared with the first six months of 2006. Adjusted for unrealised changes in value, the decrease in the profit before tax was in excess of 30%.

Oil leakage at Kolsi Power Plant in Finland

A leakage at Kolsi Power Plant in Finland on Thursday 12 July resulted in the discharge of 2 m3 of hydraulic oil into the Kokemäenjoki river. The hydropower plant is owned and operated by Statkraft Suomi Oy. The Finnish Rescue Service decided not to gather up the thinly liquid oil as it will evaporate and disappear over a short period of time.

Agder Energi and Statkraft enter into collaborative agreement on wind power

Agder Energi AS and Statkraft AS have entered into a Letter of Intent to collaborate on wind power. The agreement covers the development, expansion and operation of wind farms in Norway and the rest of Europe.

Changes in the Statkraft board

First Confederal Secretary Ellen Stensrud, CEO Egil Nordvik and Project Director Berit Johanne Rødseth were elected to the board of directors of Statkraft SF and Statkraft AS at an ordinary general meeting of Statkraft SF held today. They will succeed Gunn Wærsted, Olav Fjell and Marit Büch-Holm.

Nearly three out of four people living close to major wind power facilities have a positive opinion of their local wind farm, according to the results of an opinion poll conducted by Statkraft in three regions with wind power facilities.

Water release from Storglomvatn

Statkraft is releasing water from the Svartisen reservoir, Storglomvatn in Glomfjord, a precaution being taken to prevent possible flooding this autumn.

Salmon fishermen get SMS help

Salmon fishermen on the Alta River can now receive information on water levels, rate of flow and temperature by SMS from Statkraft. The information will help to facilitate the planning of the fishing. Ever since regulation began in 1985, Statkraft has measured the river conditions regularly in order to find the best balance between power production and salmon fishing in one of Norway’s best salmon rivers.

Statkraft granted licence for Kjensvatn Power Plant

Statkraft has today been granted a licence to build and operate Kjensvatn Power Plant in the municipality of Hemnes in the county of Nordland. The power plant, which will utilise water and falls in an area that is already regulated, will generate around 75 GWh of electricity without having any major negative environmental impact, enough to supply approx. 3,750 households with pure energy.

Young anglers and rock blasting museum to be awarded funds from the Statkraft Fund

The Statkraft Fund is awarding the Norwegian Rock Blasting Museum in Lillehammer and the Association of Norwegian Hunters and Anglers’ fishing club for children and young people a total of NOK 2 million. This is the third year in a row that Statkraft has supported causes that benefit the community through the Statkraft Fund.

Statkraft – Q1 2007

In the first quarter of the year the Group posted a profit before tax of NOK 3,533 million (NOK 2,282 million) and profit after tax of NOK 2,605 million (NOK 1,494 million). The above figures represent improvements of 55% and 74% respectively compared with the corresponding prior-year quarter. NOK 1,403 million of the pre-tax improvement of NOK 1,251 million is attributable to unrealised changes in value.

The modernisation marks the beginning of a process of closer collaboration between Statkraft and the Group companies Trondheim Energi and Skagerak Energi. Statkraft’s first wind power licence in the UK

Statkraft and its partner, Catamount Energy Corporation, have been given a licence to build Blaengwen Wind Farm in Wales in the UK. This is Statkraft’s first wind power licence outside Norway. The wind farm could be ready within two years.

Statkraft AS - Securing the water flows in the Surna River

(Oslo 7 March 2007)Statkraft wishes to install a bypass valve at Trollheim Power Plant in order to secure the flow of water in the Surna river in the event of unforeseen stoppages in electricity generation. In connection with an accident in 2005 the power plant stopped production, and fish fry stranded as a result of the lower water flow. Statkraft has been fined by the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (Økokrim) for contravention of the Water Resources Act.

Executive Vice President for New Energy Ingelise Arntsen to leave Statkraft

Ingelise Arntsen is leaving Statkraft to start work at the solar energy company REC, where she will manage REC Wafer, the company’s largest division. She will take up the new position on 1 June 2007, until when she will continue in her post as Executive Vice President for the New Energy business area.

Statkraft granted licence for Selbjørn Wind Farm

The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) today granted Statkraft a licence for the construction of Selbjørn Wind Farm in Austevoll, Norway. This is the first licence Statkraft has been granted in Hordaland county. The wind farm will have an annual production capacity of up to 110 GWh, enough to supply around 5,500 Norwegian households with clean energy.

Statkraft - Financial results for the fourth quarter and preliminary results for the 2006 financial year

(Oslo, 15 February 2007) 2006 was another very good year for Statkraft. Gross operating revenues rose by 8 per cent, profit before tax rose to NOK 9,826 million (NOK 8,449 m), while profit after tax came to NOK 6,285 million (NOK 5,620 m), an improvement of 12 per cent.

Statkraft has signed a contract as the main sponsor of recruitment for the Norwegian Biathlon Association and the development of talent in this sport. The sponsorship encompasses exposure and activities for junior athletes and recruits.
