Construction of Kjensvatn Power Plant will help remedy several environmental problems from earlier developments. The new facility utilises the fall between the existing regulating reservoirs Gressvatn and Kjennsvatn. Both have been regulated since the end of the 1960s, and are used as a reservoir for Rana Power Plant. The new power plant will provide around 75 GWh of new energy without causing any major negative environmental consequences.

“We are very pleased that we have been granted this licence. Kjensvatn Power Plant is a good example of what we can achieve by improving old facilities, since it leads to a better environment and more power,” says President and CEO Bård Mikkelsen.

It is not certain when construction can begin. The licence application was submitted more than three years ago, and Statkraft will now study the licence terms and other conditions necessary in order to realise the development.
