Many opportunities at Statkraft

“When we grow in Europe, it makes Statkraft a workplace that is not only good and secure, but also in step with the modern employee’s need for opportunities, diversity and skills development across borders. This is a big positive,” remarked Odd Vanvik, Group employee representative at Statkraft.

“Many! A position at Statkraft has always been considered good and secure. With the growth the company is undergoing now, we can offer many exciting new assignments, not to mention more places to work, remarked Odd Vanvik, Group employee representative at Statkraft.

Statkraft and E.ON will negotiate on the takeover of a number of power and heating plants in Sweden, Germany and Wales. Working at each of these facilities today are employees who could become our colleagues in the future.

However, in the current negotiating phase, it is still too early to say anything about who or how many this involves. The situation is yet to be clarified, and employee representative Odd Vanvik fully understands that people will have questions to ask.

Strengthening the company
“It is only natural. I myself would have several questions regarding any future employer. Employees are concerned with the company’s future, and for our part, it is important to signal confidence in our employer’s long tradition of taking care of its workers properly,” remarked the electrician, who is also the most senior employee representative in the Statkraft Group. “Management shows respect for the employee organisations, it keeps us well informed, we are consulted with, and we feel that we help to influence the Group’s direction.”

Q. How does the union apparatus at Statkraft view this expansion in Europe, and especially the agreement with E.ON AG to take over production facilities in Germany, Wales and Sweden?
“We see it as a positive. It strengthens the company, and it is fun to work at a growing company that is developing in a positive way and in line with our owners’ ambitions,” responds Vanvik.

Q. Have you received any signals from fellow employees as to how they perceive the plans?
“The signals have only been positive, especially when it comes to the investment in environment-friendly energy; it shows the Group is moving toward its goals and visions.”

Modern workplace
Q. Statkraft will now acquire production facilities in several countries and become a leading European player in environment-friendly energy. What opportunities does this provide for long-time and new employees of Statkraft?
“Many! A position at Statkraft has always been considered good and secure. With the growth the company is undergoing now, we can offer many exciting new assignments, not to mention more places to work. I believe this move makes Statkraft a workplace that is in step with the modern employee’s need for opportunities, diversity and skills development. Today there are lots of people who would love the opportunity to work in another country for a period. Statkraft offers that opportunity.”

Q. What do you want to say to workers in Sweden, Germany and Wales who may become your new colleagues?
“It is actually very simple. They should feel that this is an employer that takes care of its workers properly,” answers Odd Vanvik, who has worked at Statkraft for 27 years.
