Statkraft South East Europe EOOD was established in Bulgaria in May 2006. In June 2006, the subsidiary entered into a new office, located close to the administrative and business center of Sofia.

The office is in the city centre and in the same building as the Bulgarian stock exchange.
The South-East of Europe could be characterized as a varied group of relatively small countries. Those countries differ in their climate and history, traditions and folklore, their size and economic growth. But at the same time all those countries have an important similarity – rapid development of their energy sectors and liberalization of their power markets.
The power markets in South-East European countries have developped very rapidly during the past few years. General economic restructuring, European perspective and establishment of a so-called Energy Community of SEE within the Athens process are main driving factors for further development of the energy sector.
In November 2006 Statkraft South East Europe EOOD obtained a license for trading with Electric energy in Bulgaria.
