The Balkan region is proven to be a growth market with an increasing demand for energy. The region has a potential for further development of energy projects and calls for international participation and investments. Statkraft has more than 100 years of experience from development and operation of renewable energy projects and is prepared to support such opportunities in the market place. This may either be by development of greenfield opportunities, acquisition of existing projects or by collaboration with local or international energy generation companies.

Statkraft is aiming to expand its leading position in the Western Balkans power market and to enlarge its business into neighboring countries, especially in South East Europe. The main task of the office is to pursue renewable energy projects opportunities in assigned area.
However, Statkraft Western Balkans is also set up to support and strengthen our position in electricity trading on a cross border level between Serbia and surrounding countries.

Belgrade office officially opened

30.01.2008

The Statkraft Group officially opened its Belgrade office in the evening of 29 January. The main task of the office is to pursue renewable energy project opportunities in Serbia and neighbouring countries, and has already had considerable success. The official opening took place in the Norwegian Ambassador’s residence and was attended by several distinguished guests from all over Southeast-Europe

THE BELGRADE BUNCH: Biserka Tmusic, Nenad Keseric and Jan Linnerud  (all Statkraft Belgrade), Tima Iyer (Regional Director Southeast Europe, Statkraft), Håkon Blankenborg (Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro), Thorvald Stoltenberg (President of The Norwegian Red Cross) and Bård Mikkelsen (President and CEO of Statkraft).

The official opening of the Statkraft Belgrade office was celebrated with a reception at the Norwegian Ambassador’s residence in the evening of Tuesday 29 January. Among the distinguished guests were several politicians, business partners and other relations from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and heading the Statkraft delegation was Bård Mikkelsen, President and CEO of the Statkraft Group. Mr. Thorvald Stoltenberg, currently the President of the Norwegian Red Cross and a distinguished former Norwegian diplomat and politician, gave a speech where he pointed out that that this opening – a major Norwegian company setting up business in Belgrade - was something he had dreamt of already 47 years ago. Mr Stoltenberg moved to Belgrade with his family to work at the embassy at that time, and his ties to the Balkans have been strengthened each year ever since. He was commissioned as UN Peace Negotiator in former Yugoslavia from 1993 to1996.

The region of Southeast Europe is proven to be a growth market with an increasing demand for more environment-friendly energy. The region has a large potential for further development of energy projects and calls for international participation and investments. Statkraft is at the forefront of this development and is one of the few international players to confirm its dedication to invest in this market just a few days before the elections in Serbia that are drawing considerable international attention and concern.

The new Belgrade office is prepared to pursue all renewable energy opportunities in the region, either by development of greenfield projects, acquisition of existing projects or through collaboration with local or international energy generation companies.

The company Statkraft Western Balkans d.o.o. was formally established in 2007 with Jan Linnerud as Country Manager. The office is located in the New Belgrade’s business area. The Belgrade staff also comprises Dr. Nenad Keseric, Business Development Director and Ms Biserka Tmusic, Financial Office Administartor.
