Major player in Europe
With around 2,300 employees in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, the Netherlandsand, the UK, and on Balkan, the Statkraft Group is a major player in Europe. The Group is a specialist in physical and financial power trading, which is carried out from offices in both the Nordic region and on the Continent. Statkraft is engaged in the power grid and retail-sales sectors in Norwaythrough its shareholdings in Norwegian regional utilities.  

Unique generating capacity
Statkraft has a strong position in the Nordic region, where it has a unique renewable energy generating capacity, an extensive system for the gathering and analysis of data, as well as considerable market and operational experience. This is the starting point for an aggressive strategy for increased value creation through the acquisition and construction of environment-friendly generating capacity in Europe, the development of wind power and other new, renewable generating capacity, the growth of its shareholdings in Norwegian utilities, and a further optimisation of its existing business activities.

Energy sources

  • Water– The bulk of Statkraft’s electricity output is hydropower. Production takes place at 141 hydropower plants in Norway, 19 in Swedenand 4 in Finland 
  •  Wind– Wind power is one of the most environment-friendly forms of energy available for large-scale electricity production. In recent years Statkraft has built and put into operation 3 wind farms in Norway  
  • Gas – Gas can replace far more polluting coal and oil-based power production. Statkraft has 3 gas-fired power plants  (1 100%, 2 50%) which use the best available emission-reducing technology in both Norwayand Germany 
  •  Other– Group subsidiary Trondheim Energi operates a district heating scheme. Statkraft is a key player in development projects for ocean power, osmotic power and other renewable energy sources.
