Environmental certification

Environmental considerations are an integral part of Statkraft’s management systems and form a natural part of day-to-day operations and the development of new technology.

Statkraft’s environmental management system clarifies goals, priorities and action plans in respect of the environment. Serious environmental non-compliances are included in the business areas’ and Group’s scorecards as one of the management parameters that are regularly reported to the board of directors.

The environmental impact of the Statkraft Group’s activities are followed up through the management system’s categorisation system for key environmental aspects; landscape and watercourse intervention, energy and resource consumption, waste management, local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised environmental management standard, based on the concepts of continuous improvement and compliance with a body of rules. The standard contains the key elements for effective environmental management, and it makes requirements in respect of set environmental targets and systems that can contribute to the achievement of objectives.

Statkraft conducts annual internal audits, and external follow-up audits. All environmental breaches and events that occur within the group are registered, reported on and followed up in accordance with the requirements laid down in the ISO standard.
