Following deregulation, the function was divided into electricity generation and sales, and transmission grid operations. In this phase there was still a need for the electricity generators to provide system services to the central transmission grid and other grid owners. In recent years, generators have become more interested in putting the services provided to grid owners on a more commercial footing.

This has resulted in negotiations with the central grid relating to fees for services provided, and products and bundles have been put together which can be purchased by Statnett and supplied by Statnett.  

It will be necessary to review these bundles and evaluate the various pricing and trading methods used. 

Proposed project: 

• Describe the various products from the point of view of a grid owner and an electricity generator
• Assess various trading methods, tendering, fixed price, etc
• Examine how the various system services are priced, alternative costs, costs to the generator of delivery
• Propose methods for pricing and trading system services
