Renewable electricity certificates are often designated GoOs (Guarantees of Origin) or RECS certificates (Renewable Energy Certificate System). They can be sold separately from the physical electricity and are typically purchased in order to increase the share of renewable electricity in suppliers’ - and individual consumers’ - fuel mixes. This is a practical and affordable way to support a sustainable corporate image. Due to rising demand for renewable electricity, the sales of certificates can also help make investment in new renewable electricity production facilities more attractive.
