The six wind farms are calculated to generate up to 2.4 TWh per year, enough to power more than 120,000 households.

Statkraft’s partner in the project is the cellulose giant, SCA, Europe’s largest private forest owner, which owns large expanses of the areas in which the project company has applied for wind power licences. The cooperation with SCA also involves a major industrial power supply agreement for the group’s paper factories in Sundsvall and three hydropower projects in the same region.

The Swedish Parliament has set a tough goal of 10 TWh of wind power annually from 2015, fully three times more ambitious than that adopted by the Norwegian authorities. Sweden has also welcomed trade in green certificates, making it profitable to invest in wind power.

The first licensing awards are expected in the autumn of 2009.
