The wind farm is to be built on high ground east of Oban in Argyll-Bute, a few kilometres inland of the West Coast, The licence was applied for as far back as 2004 by the company GreenPower (Carraig Gheal) Ltd, which is co-owned by Statkraft and GreenPower. The local authority endorsed the project in 2006, while the Scottish Government did not award the licence until licence in 2008.
