Naturkraft's gas-fired power plant at Kårstø, Norway, was opened 1 November 2007. Naturkraft is owned by Statkraft and StatoiHydro, each holding a 50 percent stake.
The plant have a generating capacity of 420MW and a total annual output of up to 3,4 TWh. It is based on the most advanced technology available and is the first of its kind in Europe with a filtering system for nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. The plant is constructed for possible later installation of a gas scrubbing facility for carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, if such technology proves technically and economically feasible. The plant was completed autumn 2007.
