First gas turbine ready at the factory

13.02.2006

Manufacturing of Statkraft’s very first gas turbine was recently completed at the factory in Berlin. The supplier, Siemens, invited the customer to witness loading the 310 tonnes of steel on board the boat that will be transporting the turbine to Knapsack outside Köln.

STATKRAFT’S FIRST GAS TURBINE: Here we see the 310-tonne gas turbine suspended. This summer the 270 MW turbine will be installed at the gas power plant in Knapsack. It will be generating power from the summer of 2007.

In addition to being Statkraft’s first, it is gas turbine number 500 from the venerable Siemens factory in central Berlin. There was reason for celebration in other words, and Germany’s Minister of Trade and Industry Michael Glos was present at the ceremony together with 1500 factory employees.

The work is on schedule at the construction site in Knapsack, and the substantial foundations for two gas turbines and one steam turbine have already been poured. The gas turbine that was loaded onto the boat in Berlin will, however, not arrive at the construction site until the middle of the summer. The actual power plant building will be completed by then.
