Construction work on Øvre og Nedre Bersåvatn Power Plant in Tyssedal, got underway in May 2003. The power plants were opened in the spring of 2005.

Two new, small-scale power plants will exploit the drop in height between three existing reservoirs: Vendevatn, Øvre Bersåvatn and Nedre Bersåvatn. Annual output is estimated at 43 GWh, with two-thirds of this being produced during the winter.

The project will have only minor environmental implications. No new water flow regulation facilities are required, and existing water transfer tunnels will be used in part. The site has no road access.

The new pipework will be installed in the rock itself, while the power plant buildings will be located at the intersections where the pipes emerge. The project will result in no changes to any river water flows.
