Statkraft has been testing various water flow regimes in the Suldalslågen river and monitoring their effects since 1990. At the same time, Norway’s most extensive fluvial salmon monitoring programme has been carried out. The Suldalslågen’s river management regime aims to safeguard the needs of the salmon while allowing the river’s hydropower potential to be exploited. Statkraft’s proposed new regime aims to provide a better fish habitat and more favourable temperature conditions than the previous one.
Statkraft wishes to enhance the exploitation of the remaining hydropower resources in Jostedalen, located in the Luster district of Sogn og Fjordane. The projects will provide around 170 GWh of new electricity output.
Pursuant to the Energy Act, Statkraft Energi AS was, on 28 November 2006, granted a licence to build Offervatn Power Plant. The power plant will have one 1 MW turbine, which will generate 4.6 GWh per year by exploiting the fall of water between the two existing reservoirs: Offervatn and Store Måsevatn.
Statkraft has submitted an application under the Norwegian Water Resources Act to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) to construct Mølnelva Power Plant. The Mølnelva is a tributary of the Lakselva river, which flows out into Beisfjorden in Narvik in northern Norway.
The planned Kjensvatn Power Plant in Hemnes will exploit the drop in height between the existing hydropower reservoirs Gressvatn and Kjennsvatn. Both have been regulated for hydropower purposes since the late 1960s, and currently feed Rana Power Plant. A pre-application report was sent to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) in November 2002, while the actual licence application was filed in February 2004.
Statkraft sendte i januar inn søknad til NVE om konsesjon for bygging av Fykanvannet kraftverk. Kraftverket utnytter fallet i Fykanåga i Meløy kommune i Nordland fylke.
Statkraft has decided to shelve its plans to expand hydropower production on the Vefsna river, known as the “Helgeland Opportunities” scheme.
Construction work on Øvre og Nedre Bersåvatn Power Plant in Tyssedal, got underway in May 2003. The power plants were opened in the spring of 2005.
Statkraft Energi AS is building Pålsbu Power Plant in Nore and Uvdal. The new power plant is situated directly below the Pålsbu dam. Construction work started in February 2006 and the power plant is due to be completed and put into operation over summer/autumn 2007.
On 11 November 2005 Statkraft applied for permission to build Eiriksdal Power Plant in Høyanger or, subsidiarily, Lånefjord Power Plant in Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane.
Statkraft has asked the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) to approve a new river management regime for Alta Power Plant. The proposed new regime builds on years of study which concludes that juvenile salmon in the Alta river thrive best when the river is covered with ice. This has been taken into account in the proposed new regime.
