Statkraft has been granted a licence to build Offervatn Power Plant

28.11.2006

Pursuant to the Energy Act, Statkraft Energi AS was, on 28 November 2006, granted a licence to build Offervatn Power Plant. The power plant will have one 1 MW turbine, which will generate 4.6 GWh per year by exploiting the fall of water between the two existing reservoirs: Offervatn and Store Måsevatn.

Offervatn and Store Måsevatn are located in the Lebesby district of Finnmark, and are currently regulated and affected by the Adamselv Power Plant. However, when water from Offervatn is transferred into Store Måsevatn the fall in height is not exploited for the generation of electricity. To reach the company’s environmental targets, enhance the efficiency of existing hydropower schemes and develop new, profitable generating capacity, Statkraft wishes to install a power plant to exploit the drop in height between the two reservoirs.

Current situation and existing schemes
The area in question is already substantially affected by existing hydropower schemes. The planned small-scale power plant will exploit the drop through the Offervatn dam. A site road runs from Adamselv along the banks of the Store Måsevatn and Offervatn reservoirs, and on to Måkkajavri. The extensive mountain area between Tanafjord and Ifjordfjellet is called Laksefjordvidda (the salmon fjord plateau).

The new power plant will have an installed capacity of around 1.0 MW, a throughput capacity of 15.7 m3/s, and will deliver a mean output of 4.6 GWh/pa. The total cost of the project is estimated at NOK 13.2 million.
