Technology development at Statkraft

Solar energy

The goal is to establish Statkraft as a strong player in solar energy. The solar energy market is undergoing vigorous growth, based on good subsidy schemes in several countries and expectations to technology and market development reducing costs over time. Statkraft is establishing itself now while the market is in an early phase.

  1. Solar energy

Osmotic Power

When freshwater meets saltwater, for example where a river flows out into the sea, enormous quantities of energy are released. This energy can be utilised to generate power through the natural phenomenon of osmosis.

Ocean Energy

Tidal energy is the result of the sun and the moon’s gravitational pull on the tides.
When the earth rotates, the tides move – ebbing and flowing. The change in the water level between high tide and low tide creates tidal currents in coastal areas, which can be forceful enough to drive a turbine.
