Positions at Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Here we will announce the different projects and vacancies connected to the Ocean Energy Research Program. All positions will require a strong academic background and the motivation to do create new knowledge

Positions at Norwegian University of Science and Technology

  1. Project: Concepts for bottom-fixed wind turbines

Description: For bottom-fixed wind turbines there appears to be room for significant improvement, especially as regards choice of tower geometry. The PostDoc will discuss alternative geometries which will be analyzed for static and dynamic stresses, and cumulative fatigue by means of suitably modified computer programs. Rough cost estimates might also be carried out, if unit cost data can be acquired.

Qualifications: We are looking for applicants with a PhD in Civil Engineering (or in a related area)

Contact: Professor Geir Moe (geir.moe@ntnu.no ), http://www.ntnu.no/bat/english

Status: the position is filled

  1. Project: Natural wind analyzes relevant for offshore wind turbines

Description: Offshore wind conditions differ from the onshore wind and are critical parameters for the construction of wind turbines. In this project we analyze offshore wind conditions by full scale measurements on a small island facing the North Sea, and by using wind tunnels in our laboratory. This information will provide design criteria for the dynamic load on the wind turbine.

Qualifications: We are looking for applicants with a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (or in a related area)

Contact: Professor Lars Sætran (lars.satran@ntnu.no ), http://www.ntnu.no/ept/english

Status: the position is open

  1. Project: Use of HVDC multi-terminal VS and CS options to incorporate Offshore Wind or Wave power in Norwegian grid

Description: With increasing scale of the offshore wind and wave power and its distance to land, it is important to choose a proper way to connect the power produced to the AC power grid. The research will be focused on the investigation of possible combinations of different types of HVDC systems in order to benefit from the combined advantages and on optimum compensation for their drawbacks.

Qualifications: We are looking for applicants with a Master degree in Electrical Engineering (or in a related area)

Contact: Professor Tore Undeland (tore.undeland@elkraft.ntnu.no ), http://www.ntnu.no/elkraft/kraftsystemer

Status: the position is open

  1. Project: Deep Sea Wind Power Plants - Maintenance

Description: The objective is focused on maintenance of offshore wind farms. A maintenance program will typically comprise different type of preventive maintenance tasks. We will focus on-line condition monitoring and use of on-line data for maintenance decision. It is an emerging need for relevant prediction models in this area, which is also recognized as an important aspect of research on integrated operations.

Qualifications: We are looking for applicants with a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (or in a related area)

Contact: Professor Jørn Vatn (jorn.vatn@ntnu.no ), http://www.ntnu.no/ipk/english

Status: the position is open

  1. Position: Professorship/Associate Professorship in Ocean Energy Engineering

Description: Statkraft, the third largest producer of electrical energy in the Nordic countries, is developing renewable energy technologies and is sponsoring a professorship under the Ocean Energy University Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The professorship/associate professorship is in Ocean Energy, being energy conversions from the energy resources in wind, waves and tidal currents. The professor will have a demonstrated interest and a background in several of the following topics and scientific merit in at least one of them:

-hydro- and/or aerodynamics
-light weight materials
-operations and maintenance
-electrical power (from generator to grid)
-cybernetics

The professor/associate professor will get the opportunity to establish interdisciplinary research and teaching programmes that are suited to meet the challenges of technological development in ocean energy – offshore wind, wave and tidal energy.

Qualifications/Contact: See https://secure.jobbnorge.no/visstilling2.aspx?stillid=49550 for more information about the position and how to apply.

Status: the position is open
