In August 2005 Statkraft applied for a licence to build and operate a wind farm south of Hammerfest in Finnmark, with a total installed capacity of 110 MW.
In addition to the wind turbines, new roads and a new transformer will be built within the wind farm area. Annual electricity output is estimated at approx. 320 GWh. If wind turbines can be installed whose technology is adapted to the location’s particular climatic conditions, it seems realistic to assume that output could be around 10 per cent higher than this figure. Net output could therefore reach somewhere in the region of 350 GWh.

Impact assessments
Impact assessments have been carried out with respect to the planned scheme in accordance with the assessment programme determined by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) on 14 January 2004. The assessments have been carried out by independent consultants. In connection with the planning and assessment work, several consultation meetings have been held with Hammerfest District Council, the regional authorities, the reindeer farming sector and the local population.
