Licence application for Kvenndalsfjellet Wind Farm

In June 2006 Statkraft applied for a licence to build and operate a wind farm at Kvenndalsfjellet in Åfjord. The proposed wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 84-120 MW.

The wind farm will have either 42 x 2 MW turbines or 24 x 5 MW turbines. Expected annual output from the wind farm has been estimated at 240 GWh (with 2 MW turbines) or 400 GWh (with 5 MW turbines). The total investment required in connection with the wind farm is estimated at NOK 770-1,150 million.

In addition to the turbines themselves, new roads and a new transformer will be built in connection with the wind farm. The licence application document also contains a proposed zoning plan for Kvenndalsfjellet Wind Farm.

Impact assessment
Impact assessments have been carried out with respect to the planned scheme, in accordance with the assessment programme determined by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) on 31 May 2005. The assessments have been conducted by independent consultants. In connection with the planning and assessment work, several consultation meetings have been held with Åfjord District Council, the regional authorities, the reindeer farming sector, landowners and the local population.
