The need for energy is increasing the world over, and increased consumption is creating more emissions of CO2 and other gases that have a negative impact on the environment. Limiting climate gas emissions requires innovative approaches and using alternatives to coal and oil.
The UN Climate Panel has established that emissions of climate gases are accelerating climate change and must be restricted
The EU has determined that 20% of energy in 2020 must be generated from renewable sources
Norway must cut its emissions of climate gases by 30% of the 1990 level by 2020
For Statkraft, this means that our core product is in greater demand and is more valuable than ever. There are huge opportunities, combined with great responsibility. As the European leader in clean energy, Statkraft is a key contributor to the sustainable development of the European energy market.
Renewable energy
Hydropower, wind power, solar energy, wave power and osmotic power are our keys to a cleaner future. These are renewable energy sources and their use has less impact on nature than use of fossil fuels like coal and oil.
Statkraft has grown to become Europe’s largest supplier of energy based on these sources and we will be continuing our work to become bigger, better and cleaner. We are expanding our activities to new countries, while devoting substantial resources to research and development, in particular on osmotic power and floating wind farms.
Statkraft cannot solve the world’s climate problems on its own, but we can be part of the solution.
