Knapsack is the first of two gas power plants built by Statkraft in Germany and was commissioned in autumn 2007.

Two gas turbines and a steam turbine provide a combined installed capacity of about 800 MW. At continuous operation at full capacity the plant is capable of producing 7000 GWh each year. The power plant has an energy efficiency of approximately 60 percent.
