Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, acquires 50 percent shares of the energy retailer enQu. With this transaction Statkraft enters the German energy retail business and will support further growth of enQu.
“The acquisition of 50 percent of enQu is part of our growth strategy in the field of decentralized energy services and end-customer business” says Torsten Amelung, Senior Vice President New Markets at Statkraft. “With enQu we found a partner who, like Statkraft, is committed to fair pricing and professional customer service”.
“We have been planning a comprehensive re-launch of our services for a long time”, says Joachim Schwarten, Managing Director of enQu GmbH. “Despite our strong expertise in the energy business and related processes, it isn’t easy for a small company to reach commercial customers and facilitate rapid growth. In the partnership with Statkraft, we are supporting and supplementing enQu in terms of financial strength and sustainability."
The aim of the partnership is to jointly grow in the German retail business and to supply power and gas to households as well as to medium and larger commercial customers in the future. In the medium term, both partners can envisage offering services in the field of decentralised energy supply, for example solar panels, batteries or solutions for e-mobility.
The Norwegian state-owned company brings capital and many years of experience in the energy market to the partnership. enQu provides excellent relations to customers and market partners and a small efficiently managed organization. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant anti-trust authority. The parties have agreed to not disclose the purchase price.
Statkraft is a leading company in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. The Group produces hydropower, wind power, solar power, gas-fired power and supplies district heating. Statkraft is a global company in energy market trading.
