Water release from Storglomvatn
15.06.2007 08:00 | pressrelease
Statkraft is releasing water from the Svartisen reservoir, Storglomvatn in Glomfjord, a precaution being taken to prevent possible flooding this autumn.
Statkraft has issued an announcement to make people in the vicinity aware of the uncommon release.
To make room for any possible autumnal flooding, Statkraft has initiated a controlled release from the Storglomvatn reservoir in Glomfjord – currently at a release rate of 50 m3 per second. The water runs into Fykanvannet Lake and then into the fjord.
The release will be conducted throughout this summer and into autumn of 2007, depending on run-off and precipitation levels. This will result in altered water levels in Fykanvannet, toward the fjord and in the areas up to Storglomvatn.
The reason for this measure is that Svartisen Power Plant underwent a lengthy shutdown, so the Storglomvatn reservoir is full. Production at Svartisen is now going as planned.
