Fatal accident in Albania
On Tuesday 29. April, at 17:20 a fatal working accident occurred with work carried out for the Devoll project in Albania. The accident happened when three workers were hit by a rock slide while securing the slopes along the public road leading to our project area for Moglice hydropower plant in the Devoll valley, southern Albania.
The three deceased were working for a rock face scaling company, performing safety work on assignment from one of Statkraft’s road works contractors. The work was initiated to improve the safety of the public road as part of the preparation for the construction of the Moglice hydropower plant. The road was closed for all public traffic at the time of the accident.
The deceased are two Albanians, and an Italian.
“Statkraft is deeply affected by this fatal accident in Albania, and our thoughts are with the relatives,” says EVP International Hydropower, Øistein Andresen.
Statkraft will immediately start an internal investigation. The work will be carried out in cooperation with local police and authorities.
Representatives of Statkraft management will travel to Albania and the scene of the accident as soon as possible.
