Stakeholder engagement

In order to provide more people with renewable energy, we must work with a variety of stakeholders. That's why we work to create an open dialogue around sustainability issues with all stakeholders who are part of, or are potentially impacted by, our activities.

Our stakeholders

We engage with a range of stakeholders. Below are some examples:

Our owner

Statkraft is owned by the Norwegian people through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, and our value creation directly benefits the Norwegian society.

Authorities

We engage in close dialogue with local, national and international authorities to provide key decision makers with up-to-date information about Statkraft’s projects, and the importance of renewable energy in the green transition.

Financial institutions

We engage with investors and financial institutions, both of which have an increased focus on sustainability. Investors enable Statkraft to further grow within renewable energy and support the global shift to a more sustainable energy system. In addition to financing, our core banks provide services that support ongoing operations and mitigate risks for our owner and investors. Statkraft strives to have a good dialogue with investors and financial institutions and provide relevant information related to sustainability.

Local communities

We engage with local communities throughout the lifecycle of our projects and operations. Already from pre-investment decisions, we conduct consultations and engage in dialogue with neighbouring communities and potentially affected households. During construction projects, we establish consultation and contact channels, including grievance and communication mechanisms.

Employees

We work continuously to provide a working environment characterised by inclusiveness and mutual respect. We are strongly committed to diversity, labour rights and equitable treatment to make Statkraft a great place to work.

We hold an annual employee survey to evaluate our organisation and management, with topics including leadership, cooperation, working conditions, and personal development.

Suppliers

We work with our suppliers to ensure implementation of high sustainability standards. In order to drive improvement, we ensure training, reviews, inspections and audits in order to ensure compliance.

Civil society

We engage with civil society in multiple ways. For example, at project level we engage and collaborate with local civil society organisations to implement community activities, learn about the needs of the local communities and search for positive synergies between our activities and theirs. At country level we engage with several organisations both bilaterally and through sustainability networks.

Networks

Our internal governance work is supplemented by external networks where we share experiences and best practice. Networks where Statkraft is a member include the Global Compact Norway Network, the Norwegian Business and Industry Security Council (NSR) and the Nordic Business Network for Human Rights.
