The construction works on the Cakit hydropower plant started in April 2008. Cakit was one of several projects in the portfolio of Yeşil Enerji which Statkraft acquired in June 2009.
Statkraft completed the construction works and the power plant started commercial operation in June 2010. Cakit was officially opened on 12 October 2010.
